Ouch! Accessibility That Should Not Hurt

Summary

We are taking this meetup online!

As a precautionary measure, it’s probably best to limit face to face interactions given the current situation regarding the Corona Virus. So, the WPLA organizers are going to test out conducting our meetups virtually via Zoom (details below).

So, prep your webcams and get ready to continue our discussion on accessibility!

About this Meetup

Our friend, Joe Simpson, who organizes the Santa Clarita WordPress Meetup & WordCamp will be going through real examples of how to make your site accessible. Be ready for an interactive and collaborative discussion!

Meetup Notes

Some key highlights from the presentation:

  • Make sure you have enough contrast between the foreground and the background. The WebAIM Contrast Checker is a great tool.
  • Avoid “click here”, “read more”, “download”, continue reading” as link text. It meaningless to screen reader users.
  • Write smart and use content structure. Use the heading tags properly to create a pattern for your user and avoid using them for visual stylistic purposes.
